Art Parties on the Outer Banks
The Outer Banks has a rich community of artists that live here year round. To bring that year-round talent to local visitors, art parties have started to pop up. We’ve profiled Brad Price from Hang 12 Studios, one of our favorite artists on the OBX.
Brad has lived on the Outer Banks since 1991. Before he became well known on the Outer Banks for his paintings, Brad had a full career at as the executive Chef at Elizabeth’s Cafe in Duck—which is where he first displayed his work.
Elizabeth’s Cafe closed and Brad shifted his full-time efforts from the kitchen to the canvas. He set up his own studio in the Seagate North Shopping Center in Kitty Hawk where he works on his paintings and shows his art. Although he didn’t start painting until his mid-30s, he’s good – very good.
He is also patient, has a wonderful sense of humor and is a very good instructor.
Brad offers adult painting parties, where he chooses a different theme each Wednesday – anything from mermaids to jellyfish to lighthouses. His unique abstract style makes it easy for participants to explore their interpretations of his paintings.
He’s also well-versed in canine portraiture, and often takes custom orders to draw furry friends. He’s been known to offer “Paint Your Pup” classes, where he helps you create a take-home painting of your dog.
These are just a few of Brad’s class offerings. He also teaches kids classes with colorful spin art, family classes, and oil painting classes. Check him and leave the OBX with a custom, unique souvenir!
