Fall Fun on the Outer Banks

    September 13, 2024

We have never surveyed Outer Banks residents about their favorite time of the year, but just by talking to family, friends, and neighbors, the consensus is clear—we love autumn.

Summer is wonderful—after all, that is why so many people have made the Outer Banks their favorite go-to spot. But fall…well, the peak of the summer heat has backed off a bit, the ocean water is still warm enough for swimming, all our businesses are open, and, capping it all off, fall has become its own second season with something for everyone to do.

There are music festivals—Duck Jazz and the Bluegrass Island Festival Manteo are both returning.

Looking for food, fun, wine, and music? Check out Crabdaddy at Sanctuary Vineyards in Jarvisburg or the Outer Banks Seafood Festival in Nags Head, celebrating the area’s history of commercial fishing. Want to discover for yourself if beer can fly? Check out BrewTag at the Nags Head Event Site as kegs get strapped to the back of gliders and take to the air.

Wings over Water is the event to check out for birders and anyone who loves the outdoors.

And all of that just scratches the surface of what the Outer Banks has to offer in its second season.

Cultural events are offered by the Theater of Dare, the Outer Banks Forum, and the Bryan Cultural Series. New this year, Dare Arts is bringing a series of classic but little-known films to Manteo.

Also, new this year, the renovated and updated Pioneer Theater in the heart of Manteo is bringing in at least one national act every month.

There is so much to do; we can’t even mention all of it, but our calendar of events will hopefully help things along.

We organized our calendar this year by event type with the date next to the event.
