Outer Banks Seafood Festival
It’s that time of year when thoughts turn to activities on the Outer Banks that bring visitors to our rental homes. What could be more inviting than a celebration of the local seafood, the fishermen who bring it to us, and the chefs who prepare it? That’s what is waiting for you at the 2nd Annual Outer Banks Seafood Festival on October 19th at the Outer Banks Event Site in Nags Head. Carolina Designs Realty was a charter sponsor of the event’s inaugural last year where we hosted over 7000 participants.
Learning from the successes of the first year, the event promises to be even better! The day begins at 11:00 am with a welcome and presentation of the color guard followed by a performance from our local high school jazz band. Tents are set up for the multitude of restaurants that will cook fresh seafood with an array of delicious and unique recipes. Keeping the mood festive, the main stage has performances throughout the day from local bands like Molasses Creek, Blind Prophets, Aquarium, Old Enough to Know Better, Mojo Collins and The Crowd.
The Outer Banks Catch, a local organization dedicated to promoting awareness of the Outer Banks’ bounty of seafood, has a tent showcasing fishing techniques, the local catch, demonstrations on tying nets, and more. Boats will be on display and there’ll be plenty for the children to enjoy in the Family Reef Retreat Tent, where we’ll find Magic Mike, a local children’s singing group and exhibits on some of our local wildlife.
New this year is the Fish House Olympics, where clever events will include crab races, junior and professional class mullet tossing, and crab net stacking competitions. Also new are cooking demonstrations by some favorite local restaurants known for their tasty and innovative cuisine. It’s the kind of event where you’ll be able to come for a few hours or stay to enjoy the venue for the entire day; with over 10 acres overlooking the sound, it is the perfect location to soak in all the fun.
Admission is just $3.00 and the bounty of food and beverages will be reasonably priced using “Sea Bucks.” If you are interested in a special evening event, plan on coming to “Dock and Dine” at the Dunes Restaurant on Friday, October 18th. Here you’ll enjoy a delicious variety of seafood stations, beverages and music from The Crowd for just one price. Tickets for everything and more details can be found on the official website, outerbanksseafoodfestival.org. We hope to see you there!
