Hurricane Sandy has reported winds of 85 mph. At 5:00 AM, the center of Sandy was located approximately 291 miles due east of Kill Devil Hills, NC. Sandy has a very large wind field, with 39+ mph winds extending out 485 miles from the center. Therefore, Tropical Storm-force winds are expected to continue along the Outer Banks through today.
Watches And Warnings
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Dare County Outer Banks, including the Sounds. High Wind and Coastal Flood Warnings cover the Currituck Outer Banks (Corolla).
Evacuation Information
At this time, there are no evacuation plans for Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills or Nags Head.

Several Outer Banks municipalities have declared States of Emergency.
The Bonner Bridge is closed at Oregon Inlet due to overwash on Pea Island and Hatteras Island.
More overwash flooding is being reported on NC-12 (Beach Road) in Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head… and in South Nags Head on Old Oregon Inlet Road. Coastal flooding is being widely reported from ocean and soundside overwash on Hatteras Island.
Dare County Emergency Management advises that there is an increased threat of inundation of storm surge and soundside flooding… 4 to 6 feet oceanside, and 4-7 feet soundside.
Widely scattered power outages are being reported by Dominion Power. At 5:00 AM, 57 Dare County customers and 14 Currituck County customers were without power.
Ferry routes along the NC coast with embarkation/debarkation in Dare, Currituck or Hyde have suspended operations until conditions are deemed safe.
