Hurricane Sandy has reported winds of 75 mph. At 5:00 PM, the center of Sandy was located approximately 402 miles from Kill Devil Hills, NC. Tropical Storm winds are nearing the North Carolina coastline.
Watches And Warnings
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the North Carolina Coast from Duck southward, including the Sounds. A High Wind Watch is in effect for the Currituck Outer Banks (Corolla).
At this time, there are no evacuation plans for Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills or Nags Head. Emergency Managers in both Dare and Currituck counties are monitoring the progress of Sandy, and advise residents and visitors to make safety preparations now.
Earlier today, there were reports of sand and overwash on NC-12 just north of Hatteras Village between Hatteras and Frisco.
All ferry routes along the NC coast have suspended operations until conditions are deemed safe. [Read More Here]
