spring outer banksThere are so many reasons to feel joyous on the Outer Banks. Why this celebration?  Because spring has arrived, and this means warmer temperatures, sunshine, flip flops, and, of course, the beach. Our seasonal spring-break travelers have come and gone, but there are many home owners and guests who plan their visits prior to the busy summer season.  Although it may be too cool for certain water sports and activities, there are many outdoor activities to enjoy while staying in one of our luxury Outer Banks oceanfront rentals.

    Fishing

The spring season is a great time to catch a few tips from the area’s most experienced anglers. Fall and spring are considered prime seasons for surf fishing.  The waters aren’t overcrowded by summertime tourists and you’ll have ample opportunities to reel in some of the season’s most popular fish. Other catch could include speckled trout, jumbo striped bass, blue fish or red drum.  Sign up for a class with friends and family at Outer Banks Fishing School in Kitty Hawk, or just head to the beach to see how you fare.  Fishing is a fun and relaxing change of pace while staying at one of our Outer Banks oceanfront rentals. If you’re feeling more adventurous charter a boat, such as Bite Me in Hatteras, to bring home a big catch and tall tales.

    Golfing

Water breezes and mild temperatures create a perfect golf environment for beginners and more experienced golfers.  If you brought the entire family to stay at one of our Outer Banks oceanfront rentals, there are numerous themed putt-putt courses scattered throughout the OBX, including Waterfall Greens Miniature Golf in Kitty Hawk.  Grown-ups will enjoy our more prestigious golf courses, including the Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powell’s Point and the Carolina Club in Grandy, NC.

    Visit Jockey’s Ridge

Boasting the tallest natural sand dune system in the Eastern United States, Jockey’s Ridge is a national park full of scenic rolling hills of sand and dunes. This park provides self-guided hiking trails, a 360-foot boardwalk, hang gliding, kite flying, sand-boarding and water sports from the soundside access.  Spring is the perfect time to visit Jockey’s ridge, as the heat may become challenging for many in the summer months. Located in Nags Head, this park is very close to many of our oceanfront Outer Banks rentals.

    Tour Elizabethan Gardens

Located in the quaint town of Manteo, the Elizabethan Gardens offers amazing springtime tours sure to inspire all of your traveling companions.  Within these walls, you’ll find a beautiful collection of Renaissance statues, a sound-front Elizabethan-gazebo, a sunken Elizabethan knot garden and year-round color of exquisite flowers and plants. There are many seasonal events to mark on your calendar, such as the Home and Garden Tour at the end of April.

    Horseback Riding

While staying in one of our Outer Banks oceanfront rentals, make your day at the beach even more special by taking the entire family horseback riding. At Equine Adventures in Hatteras, schedule a two hour guided tour through the North Carolina Coastal Reserve and the Maritime Forest out to the beach. Based on each individual’s horseback riding experience, they match riders up with the perfect horse. Beginners are welcome!

Regardless of what you decide to do while staying in one of our many Outer Banks oceanfront rentals, when the time comes to plan outdoor activities, your calendar can quickly be filled in with memorable events and activities!
