An exciting and experienced collection of vendors are available and at your service for your Outer Banks wedding – from Corolla to Nags Head and all areas in between- Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Duck and Roanoke Island. Depending on the size of the wedding, professionals are available to help you with equipment rentals, floral arrangements, musicians and disc jockeys, photographers, videographers, beauty services, cakes, caterers, transportation, officiants and more. A complete virtual wedding guide of these services can be found at outerbanksweddingassoc.org or outerbanksweddingguide.com

You should be considering vendors at least 12 months prior to the event. The most timely are: the wedding planner (if you choose to have one); officiant; caterer; musician; cake and floral.  We have addressed wedding planners in a recent blog, so let’s discuss some considerations for the selection of an officiant for your ceremony:

PHILOSOPHY:  Does their philosophy and experience resonate with you? Do you like their speaking voice? Are you energized by their enthusiasm and commitment to your ceremony? Is the celebrant open to your ideas and will they co-create the ceremony with you? Will they perform a spiritual ceremony as opposed to a religious one?

RELIGIOUS AND SPIRITUAL ISSUES:  Will the officiant represent couples who are from different religious, spiritual and/or cultural backgrounds?

WRITING AND CO-CREATING THE CEREMONY:  How will your Outer Banks ceremony be created and written? Are you confident in the skills of your chosen officiant to deliver your ceremony? Does the officiant have sample ceremonies/vows for your review?

REHEARSAL:  Will the officiant be available for a rehearsal? (For an extra charge)

AVAILABILITY:  Is the officiant available before your ceremony for questions and advice?

FEES AND PAPERWORK:  What will the officiant charge for the ceremony and exactly what does this include? Do they offer a written agreement for services, insuring that your date and time are agreed to on paper? What is the deposit?
