In recognition of 30 years since its incorporation, the Town of Southern Shores held a two day celebration beginning Saturday, April 18th. The weather was perfect for the fun and festivities with plenty of food, entertainment and fun for all. The community pulled together to prepare and provide beach games, kite flying, a parade of decorated bicycles and motor of all sorts, arts and crafts show and a baked goods contest. In addition, no special event is complete without our Outer Banks clown, Magic Mike! On Sunday, the Southern Shores Boat Club provided canal tours from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. from the Loblolly Marina.
The Town Manager, Don Smith stated, “The success of the Town’s 30th anniversary celebration is yet another wonderful example of the volunteerism of our residents complimented by the professionalism of our town staff – please join me in extending heartfelt gratitude for all who helped make this celebration possible.”
In its 11th year and going strong, the Frisco Native American Museum & Natural History Center hosted the annual Inter-Tribal Powwow this last Saturday and Sunday, April 25th and 26th.
It was a magical time of dance when invited in the circle and watching the circle dancers, song, and listening to the beat of the drum throughout the wooded area. There are paths leading here and there to vendors selling handmade baskets, drums, flutes, skins, storytelling, and children’s crafts. Exhibits about the different tribes and people dressed in their ancestral Indian gowns were everywhere. It is a very enjoyable experience and fun for the whole family.
Mother’s Day is around the corner; it falls on Sunday, May 10th this year. Plan a week at the beach where spring is in full bloom, the weather is warm and the people are friendly. No high rises, no heavy traffic, no shoes, no shirt, no problem! Just kick back, dig your toes in the sand and watch the pelican squadron patrol the beach. The waves will lull you to sleep or keep you in shape if you dare to ride them.
