Beginning Friday, April 4th through Saturday April 12th, special activities are planned daily in celebration of our community and heritage here on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The Land of Beginnings Festival will start off with the Children’s Faire with magicians, face painting, exhibits and more on Friday, April 4th at the Wright Brothers Pavilion in Kill Devil Hills. There will be a “Studio Tour” of local artists sponsored by the Dare County Arts Council. Beginning this year, a scholarship award will be given out to a “Living Legend” here on the Outer Banks at the annual community luncheon. On two nights of the festival week, stories and tales will be presented one at Roanoke Island Festival Park and the other at the Wright Brothers Pavilion. To top off the week, an annual black-tie dinner and dance will be held at the Pavilion to benefit The Lost Colony. Workshops for nonprofits and businesses such as PR for Dummies, Crisis Management, Ins and Outs of Advertising, and How to Create Effective Show Exhibits will be on this week’s event calendar. And… if that was not enough, also planned is a fashion show, county-wide art project, Dinner on the Grounds, photography contest, and more. More information will be given as we come closer to the event date.

Reservation Policy Changes for 2008
On behalf of Carolina Designs Realty, we congratulate you on your very special plans to wed on the Outer Banks! We look forward to providing exceptional service to meet all of your needs for this special day.
Please be aware that wedding rentals require extra maintenance, cleaning and management during the week. In an attempt to properly maintain the vacation rental property and manage the extra time and attention that guests require, we have developed new policies for weddings for the 2008 season.
Specifically note that Carolina Designs Realty requires a maximum number of 50 guests allowed during the wedding. There will be an additional event fee incurred by the renter in the amount of $3,500 to have the wedding in the vacation rental home. The fee will defray the cost involved in the logistics of these events and ensure minimal “wear and tear” on the property. Wedding events require a double security deposit in the amount of $2,000. The damage waiver of $50 is not an option for wedding rentals. Alternative parking arrangements will need to be made. On-street parking is not permitted anywhere on the Outer Banks. Again, we look forward to assisting you with your special plans to wed. Should you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!
Carolina Designs Realty is pleased to announce that Samantha Chappell, our Maintenance Administrator, has been promoted to Maintenance Manager. Samantha is a very special member of our family here at Carolina Designs Realty. Samantha practically grew up here, beginning work at age 14 as our Housekeeping Coordinator.
As a long time resident of Hertford, NC, Samantha is familiar with the long drive to work on the Outer Banks. With the opportunities and family that she has here at Carolina Designs, Sam considers this a small price to pay. Sam seems to always arrive before any of us and is here when we leave at the end of the day. We often wonder if she ever goes home. Congratulations, Samantha!
We are also delighted to announce that Gail Schlecht, a member of our Reservations team, has been promoted to Head of Reservations. Gail will obtain her Broker’s license and serve as the first point of contact when issues need clarification and/or approval from a licensed Broker for our Reservations Department.
Gail has extensive knowledge in the real estate industry after many valuable years working for one of our competitors. A former resident of Providence, RI, Gail received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of Rhode Island.
We applaud the superior work performance of these staff members and wish them well in their new positions.
Our homeowners go to great lengths to show how much they appreciate our management services. We’ve received countless letters, emails and special visits just to let us know that they love the care and concern that we show toward their investment in their home and to their guests. They know that they can count on us to provide detailed, real time information to them in private owner access area from our web site. They can become as involved in the management of their home as they would like to be, or leave all of it up to us. Because of our strong relationship with area vendors, we have a plethora of resources available at our fingertips for our homeowners. We have established these same bonds with our guests, which is one reason why they come back to us year after year. They know that they can expect upscale, top-of-the-line vacation rental homes and superior customer service.
Thank you to all of the homeowners, guests and vendors that make our job at Carolina Designs Realty such a pleasure to strive for the best that we have to offer, from the technology that we develop, to the skills we acquire to further our goals in customer service, to the management required to stay on top of the market in all aspects of what we do.
Kitty Hawk Kites in Nags Head across from Jockey’s Ridge State Park offers everything for the outdoors teaching and supplying kites, kite boarding, hang gliding, kayaking, parasailing – the list goes on and on. They are the largest kite store and hang gliding school in the world. This makes sense as one of their many locations is located across from the largest sand dune on the east coast.
Now, they will take groups of 12 children to celebrate birthday parties. For a very affordable fee, they handle all the details and you just show up with the kids and a camera. You don’t even have to have the camera, they can arrange for a professional photographer. The kids will have turns climbing the rockwall, have t-shirts provided for them to decorate, have balloons, pizza, drinks and a customized cake of your choosing. This is a great option for locals and visitors alike.
Get all the details from Cory Davies, Site Coordinator at Kitty Hawk Kites, at 252-441-1719, extension 204. Sign up for some fun!
Over the past months, the Housekeeping Department has assessed the number of housekeepers and inspectors that will return for another season and the need for new personnel. Beginning early in February, orientation for spring cleaning will be provided for both new and returning seasonal employees. The expectations and guidelines required for this very important function was explained in detail along with a full tour of our new Guest Services facility in Harbinger. All of our returning cleaners and inspectors will also receive the same review for cleaning over the next few weeks.
Even though we accept employment applications at any time during the year, we advertise openings to prospective new employees in early spring job fairs. The job fair gives people a chance to get to know us, fill out the necessary paperwork and view all of the facilities available to them. For more information, contact the Housekeeping Department at ext. 292 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
