“Dear Carolina Designs Realty,
As a first time renter with Carolina Designs and first time visitor to the Outer Banks (Duck) I must tell you that it was our best summer vacation experience ever. The website was great and easy to navigate. The Rental Office staff in Duck were wonderful when we booked our rental house and even better in person at check-in. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
The house we rented, #141 General’s Roost, the week of July 29 – August 5, 2007 was even better than expected; very clean and great quality. We did have some minor maintenance issues that were reported to the rental office but all things were taken care of very promptly. The area was very nice, the community center was very neat and clean and we felt safe and relaxed the entire week. It was very nice to get a courtesy call from the owner during the week too. Please forward this email onto the owner and he can feel free to contact me if he wishes. Absolutely the best vacation for all 14 of us!”
Thanks again, Ken Bacha

Special Legislative Update
August 24, 2007
By Daniel Sutherland
Outer Banks Board of Realtors
“Many people attended a meeting yesterday at the Pine Island Fire Station to learn about plans for a new wastewater treatment plant that will service the Monteray Shores/Buck Island/Corolla Bay subdivisions. Representatives from Currituck County, North Carolina, and Carolina Water presented information on the technical operations of the system and the timeline of the project. The overflowing crowd in attendance was very eager to hear when a state-imposed building moratorium would be lifted. As one attendee stated, “People have been waiting for six years to maximize their land. When is it going to happen?”
The Department of Environmental and Natural Resources permitted the project in March of this year. All property plats and deed will be recorded by the end of August and construction should start mid-September. Construction can only take place during the non-peak season. The plant will have a capacity of 520,000 gallons per day when completed and will be constructed in two phases. The first half of the plant is expected to be completed by December 23, 2008; the second half by April 20, 2009.
The total cost of the project is $9.5 million; Carolina Water will be paying 50% from the rate base and the real estate/development company, BD&A, will be paying the remaining 50%. The plant will also serve BD&A’s new subdivision, Corolla Bay; the partnership negates the need for a separate wastewater treatment plant to be built for Corolla Bay. Once DENR approves water capacity allocations, then Currituck County can issue building permits. Many were concerned that the Corolla Bay subdivision would receive allocations before lots in Monteray Shores. When asked if permits would be issued on a first come-first served basis, County Manager Dan Scanlon stated that since BD&A is paying for part of the system that there would be some allocations set aside for Corolla Bay. He stated, “The County is willing to sit down with Carolina Water and discuss allocations and if agreed upon, the County will honor and respect those allocations.” It was then clarified by Carolina Water representatives that “Corolla Bay is not going to take away any capacity that would be for Monteray Shores, Buck Island or anywhere else!”
As far as the state-imposed building moratorium: according to the timeline presented it will be at least (if everything goes as planned) another 16 to over 20 months before any construction permits will be issued in Monteray Shores.
Sorry the news is not better for those property owners but things are moving in the right direction!”

Located just south of the heart of Duck, North Carolina, there is an upscale, gated community development that serves approximately 130 homes, most of which are weekly vacation rentals. There is a plethora of amenities offered in this subdivision from the sound to the oceanfront.
The clubhouse is open daily and houses the lounge, exercise room, heated indoor pool & kiddie pool open year round, and courtyard with picnic facilities. There is also a game room equipped with air hockey, pool, and video games. Adjacent to the clubhouse, you will find two outdoor tennis courts as well as a basketball court.
The trolley service, available from Memorial Day to Labor Day, provides continuous transportation to all of the amenities that Four Seasons has to offer as well as jaunts into the Town of Duck for shopping or dining excursions.
An outdoor pool & kiddie pool is located not far from the oceanfront, providing restrooms and changing areas.
Access to the shoreline is an easy walk over a choice of two walk-overs – one off LaLa Court and one at the end of Four Seasons Lane.

“I am writing this letter as we leave the Outer Banks of North Carolina after a wonderful vacation in rental #455, Bluegrass Breeze. Last year on the ride home I was busy writing a letter to the Better Business Bureau after renting a different house from a different agent. I am happy to tell you that we can’t say enough good things about Carolina Designs and the Miller home.
This is our 5th family reunion in the Outer Banks, where 7 brothers and sisters and their families gather to catch up with each other. We have stayed close over the years but don’t get to see each other much, as we live on all ends of the country, so this is such a special week for us. As the organizer, I have great anxiety about whether or not I have chosen an appropriate home for our time together. You allayed these anxieties within minutes of our arrival. Your personal touch went a long way to improving our stay. Having toilet paper, paper towels, coffee and made beds upon arrival was a relief. The Bluegrass Breeze is a fabulous house, wonderfully located, well stocked, well organized, beautifully clean and feels very homey. Every time I needed to call Carolina Designs, I got a pleasant and helpful voice on the other end. We had 2 power outages on the block during our vacation, both at 6PM (dinnertime). I called Carolina Designs both times to get some information. The receptionist called the power company and called me back with information on when to expect the power to return. We shared the information with all our neighbors, as many of them had received no call back from their (different) real estate companies. I felt very comfortable that our company was committed to helping us have the best vacation possible.
Thank you again for helping make our family vacation so wonderful. Please send a copy of this letter to the Miller family. We look forward to working with you next year.”

Our annual Housekeeper Appreciation Day was held on Saturday, August 4th. A delicious feast was prepared at the new Housekeeping Services Building in Harbinger for all the dedicated staff in the field that work so hard to care for the homes. After work hours, the celebration continued for all of our staff here at Carolina Designs Realty.
Thanks to all of you who served those who provide superior service to all of our guests, owners and vacation rental homes that we manage!
