The Secret Soundside Beach In Nags Head

August 21st, 2006

There is a secret spot on the Outer Banks where you can go that is perfect for the little ones to frolic and play in the sound.  At Jockey’s Ridge State Park – the huge sand dune in Nags Head – take Soundside Road until it bends to the left, take a right into the black top parking area for Soundside Beach.  You will find nature trails, a foot wash and a little bridge that will take you over to a little piece of paradise.  The wide, sandy beach is perfect for spreading out with umbrella, chairs, beach toys, and a picnic lunch.  As an alternative to the ocean, the water is calm and shallow.  You can walk out into the sound for 200 yards or so and still only be up to your knees in water.  There are sand bars that you can walk out on the will go for a mile or so.  This is also a place where you can take your dog and not have to restrict him on a leash.  Because not very many people know of this spot, it is usually not crowded.  It is but one of many calm and peaceful places to take the family on the Outer Banks.

Schooner Ridge in Duck Fans

August 3rd, 2006

“ I must admit, with all the activities of last year I neglected to send you a testimonial of all the years of our wonderful vacations to the Outer Banks.  We returned again this year and enjoyed a beautiful home (Windjammer from 7/15- 7/29)..what a great family oriented vacation home, indeed!  I can add this to the long list of homes we have enjoyed in Schooner Ridge over the past 17 years!

Every year we say…and now kick ourselves..for not purchasing a home in Schooner Ridge- I absolutely love the development.  As I rode around on bikes with my kids (who are now not so little anymore!!), I realized the reason we continued to come to stay in Schooner Ridge was because of all it has to offer every single age group!  It is a safe, secure and fun community- I can honestly say over the years we have enjoyed every single amenity that it offers….tennis, the pools, paddle ball, the weight room, pools by the beach and now more and more right in the back yard…and the great hot tubs to relax and chat with the family!  Upon returning to work today I wished I could blink my eyes and resume my vacation….sitting up on the deck watching the sunset..simply wonderful! Thank you so very much!”
